Sold

AUS31 is sold, and will be the third boat I've owned that was built in Australia and gone overseas:
  • AUS17 - built by Hayden and Les Virtue, sold at the 2005 IC World Championships
  • AUS18 - built by Tim Wilson (of Tim Wilson Yacht Design) sold at the 2008 IC World Championships
  • AUS31 - designed by Geoff Harman (MECHAR) and built by me, now sold.
I'm going to miss my first ever boat that I built, but I welcome that she will be raced and that I get some shed space to work on the NS14 and plan an IC build when my daughter gets sick of sailing with me.

A pre-Christmas bargain - motivated seller wants the shed space

Flatpack is still for sale, there has been a little bit of interest but no one has even asked for a test sail. However I want shed space for the next project, which means there is a bargain to be had for someone who is interested in purchasing before Christmas.
The advert is on gumtree, and the asking price is $4500 however if you are a keen sailor then we can negotiate (put it this way, I would like a new set of sails for the NS, a carbon boom and a boat cover - so most sailors can work out how much that would be) http://www.gumtree.com.au/m-my-ad.html?adId=1047976708

International Canoe for sale - AUS31.

On the market now if anyone is interested, else it can get lofted in the shed.
Mechar designed, home built IC (carbon/foam sandwich), carbon foils, C-Tech HM Mast, carbon boom, carbon strut vang (gnav), Alexander Sails, race ready.
Only for sale as I am sailing NS14s with my daughter if it sells and gets someone new into the class then cool, if not I'll sail it when I can.
Asking $4500 ono (great value, for a boat that goes hard but isn't... the prettiest - mainly because it was my first ever boat build)
$800 for the fully enclosed trailer, registered, or $1500 if I spruce it up.

Wrap up

Well, the IC is still sailed occasionally, and I will go back to the class (probably with a new boat, meaning that I guess AUS31 is for sale if someone is interested) when my daughter is sick of sailing with me.
Miss, who learnt to walk at the 2008 IC World Championships and went for her first sail on her first birthday is now crewing for me in an NS14.

Don't forget the 2014 IC Worlds are coming up in August.

Boat Repairs, New jobs and a New build planned

Wow, what a winter - yes I spent it snowboarding, and yes I paid for not doing winter maintenance on the IC when I split a chine on the third race of the season. And since I started a new job at the same time poor AUS31 is still sitting upside down in the shed. But it is not all doom and gloom, I have some time coming up over Christmas so I should be back on the water in the new year - and then planning the Flatpack Mk II can begin as we look forward to the Worlds in the USA in 2013.

And then there was 1

Well, a lot has happened in the last few months since I last updated this, but not much on the IC front.
Good news is that there are now 3-4 regularly sailing IC's in Adelaide, bad news is that AUS32 is no more. Pete and AUS32 got caught in a big squall off of West Beach, several boats were written off in it including a Pacer from ASC. Thankfully Pete was safe, picked up by the SA Sea Rescue Squadron, but AUS32 didn't fare so well - sustaining significant damage to the spine (see design pics) of the boat possibly due to being upside down for over 3 hours and bouncing on the bottom. A small positive from this is that it looks like Pete is picking up AUS25 for the upcoming season.

I've been pretty quiet on all fronts, and very embarrassed that Australia will not be represented in Germany this year or defending the International Challenge Cup. I feel I have let down the IC Association by not working harder to get a team there, and have already started planning an assault on the next worlds beginning with:
  • The 2011 Nationals at Milang Regatta Club over the October Long Weekend
  • Then a number of other key regattas where IC's will race, fund raise, and promote this fantastic class.
Expect to hear more from me soon.

Cheers

Finally an update

Okay, so I have been off snowboarding New Zealand (Treble Cone, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Roundhill, Mt Dobson, Mt Hutt, Mt Ruapehu) and Australia (Mt Hotham) and the Flatpack has been left in the shed for the winter. But with the sailing season here, it was time for that new rig for the flatpack:
